Last year Loriane very kindly donated some beautiful handwoven scarves to the Operation Wrapped in Remembrance project.  She did this on behalf of the Southern Felters, although the felting group, itself, wasn't actually involved.  We received this magnificent thank you though and we would like to acknowledge Loraine's efforts.

Bring along your felting projects and enjoy the felting fun. There is a $10 door charge if you are felting.  We welcome visitors who want to see what we do. As usual bring your own lunch or there are plenty of cafes nearby.   Anna will have her beautiful wool and silks for sale in the morning. I look forward to hearing what people have been doing over summer.  Attached is what I got up to with one of my felted friends on Macquarie Island.

November coming up already, how did that happen? Our next felting day is this Saturday 1 November.

Same deal as usual. All welcome and don't forget to bring something to show us if you have done any felting lately. Here's hoping we have some sunny good weather by then. I hear Jane has been responsible for the creation of quite a flock of pūkeko puppets, (great weather for pūkeko today).

Visitors Welcome

Some of us have been at the Felters' Convergence in Auckland.  We have new techniques and hundreds of ideas all jumbled up in our heads waiting to get out. Photos from Convergence below. Also, some of us attended Wendy Bailye's course on surface collage a couple of weekends ago, which included felting paper onto the surface of felt.

What is the collective noun of a group of felters?????

Creative Fibre Festival
Creative Fibre Canterbury are hosting this years Festival of Fibres 2025 on the weekend of 10 - 13 April.  Its being held at Rangi Ruru school, Christchurch.  See the Creative Fibre website for more information. I know some Southern Felters are involved.

Creative Fibre National Festival
Festival this year is called Threads for Change and it is in Christchurch from 10 April to 13 April 2025. More information at https://festival2025.creativefibre.org.nz/ 

Convergence
There is a big felters' event coming up this year, the Southern Hemisphere Felters’ Convergence.  This is a get together for felters from New Zealand and Australia.  It is going to be in Auckland this year. 25 to 29 September 2025. Our next felting day is this Saturday, 1st June.  With the shortest day not that far away its a good time to get out, catch up with everyone, and do some felting.  Its also King's Birthday weekend. All welcome as usual. There are new heaters in the hall and we successfully got them working last month so there is no need to worry about that.
