Our next felting day is this Saturday 4th June.  We will be signing in and keeping our tables well spaced out.  It seemed to work OK last month with people wearing, or not wearing their masks, as they felt like it. Please, if you feel unwell stay home, and only come if you are going to do some work or are keen to join our group.  (We usually welcome visitors having a nosey but maybe another month if you just want to come for a look). We meet in Halswell Hall on the corner of Halswell Junction Road and Halswell Road. 9.00 am - 3.00 pm $10 door charge,

We have nothing particular planned but Anna is going to bring in some more of the lovely merino needle felted batts that she has managed to get hold of for our group.  She is selling lengths at cost and it is very good value.

Don't forget that the Canterbury Branch of Creative Fibre exhibition is coming up.  You need to be a member of Creative Fibre to enter this.  This is a separate organisation to Southern Felters although we do encourage people to join. Check out the Creative Fibre website for more information

Our very own Jane Dolan is running a 'Craft Snippiet' on

WEDNESDAY, MAY 25, 2022 AT 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM

Upper Riccarton Community and School Library

Jane is going to do a short talk about felting and will bring along lots of different samples and styles for people to have a look at.  Craft Snippets is library initiative and a way to learn about artisan crafts from enthusiasts and experts who love to share.  As it is at the library you will need to wear a face mask.  Room capacity is limited so bookings are required.  Phone 03-941-7923.
Jane says
"I started felting in 2009 and have been hooked ever since. I am an active member of our local felting group the Southern Felters who meet once a month at Halswell Community Hall and run a variety of felting activities through the year. I am also member of Creative Fibre NZ and I am part of Creative Fibre Canterbury who run the Wool Yarn Fibre shop at the Tannery in Woolston.
Over the years I have taken part in a variety of exhibitions and workshops. This year Southern Felters will be exhibiting at the Christchurch South Library during the month of August and Creative Fibre Canterbury will be holding the Area Exhibition at the Christchurch museum in September."
After Jane's talk we will look at craft books new to the library as well as chat about what is happening or coming up craft wise in and around Canterbury.
To book your place please phone Upper Riccarton Library, 941-7923.
